Nestled along the shores of Lake Michigan, Watervale Inn provided the perfect backdrop for two incredible souls beginning their next chapter together. From the moment guests arrived, there was a sense of anticipation and excitement in the air. The lake was remarkably calm, reflecting the soft blue sky above, while warm summer light filtered through the trees and danced across the waterfront.

The weather could not have been more beautiful. Gentle breezes drifted off Lake Michigan while golden sunlight illuminated every part of the celebration. The early summer landscape was lush and vibrant, creating a stunning canvas for portraits and candid moments alike.

One of my favorite aspects of photographing weddings at Watervale Inn is the variety of scenery available within just a short walk. From the sandy shoreline and peaceful waterfront views to the charming historic cottages and wooded pathways, every location feels uniquely Northern Michigan.

For this couple, the calm lake seemed to mirror the peace and joy they brought to their wedding day. They were fully present with one another, soaking in every moment and embracing the significance of the day without distraction.

On the shore of Lake Michigan sits the lovely Watervale Inn. It is situated on Herring Lake, directly next to Lake Michigan. And, it is a location that is near and dear to Lauren and Sam’s hearts, as well as their family. Lauren and Sam both grew up vacationing here, but never meeting each other while vacationing. When they met at university, they unexpectedly realized they both spent time in the area because Lauren’s stationary (by Gwen Frostic) is local to Arcadia, Michigan. And as people say, the rest is history.

Lauren and Sam’s wedding was an event I was looking forward to. After meeting them the previous year for their engagement photos, I was so excited to spend an entire day with the two of them and their family and friends. These two beautiful soul bring a sense of peace and calmness that resonates around them, with many fun surprises thrown into the mix. Their wedding day started out with a lovely breakfast at the Inn, followed by a morning of puzzles, beach wanderings, and relaxing time to prepare for the wedding. During their wedding, I was secretly crying behind my camera as I photographed Sam tearing up seeing Lauren walk towards him. Following the ceremony, this couple definetly let a little more of their adventurous side loose, from Lauren dunking the basketball on Sam to the the display of their incredible dance moves on the dance floor. This was one spectacular party that I am so blessed to have been a part of.
